HONEST OR DISHONEST?

In today’s world, honesty could seem to be a disadvantage. After all, some common reasons for being dishonest are: ‘If I don’t lie to my parents, I could get grounded’, ‘If I don’t cheat on this test, I can fail it’, ‘If I don’t steal this item, I will have to save up for it´. Besides, what is the big deal?’ some might ask: ‘Isn’t everyone dishonest?’

The answer to the question ‘Isn’t everyone dishonest?’ is no. Many people, including a large number of young people, believe that honesty brings good benefits. “Whatever a person sows, this he will also reap,” says the Bible. (Galatians 6:7) In other words, our actions always have consequences, whether for good or for bad.

Consider, for example, some bad consequences people have reaped from lying: “I lie to my mom about talking to a certain boy. She has clear evidence that I am not telling the truth. After the third time, I lie about this, Mom has enough. I am grounded for two weeks and I cannot use my cell phone or watch TV for a month. I will never lie to my parents again!”—Anita.

3. Observa las siguientes ideas y organizalas en tu cuaderno de modo que construyas un parrafo con ellas. Subraya con colores disitntos TOPIC SENTENCE, SUPPORTING IDEA/S, CONCLUSION.

a. She says: ‘That is very nice of you. Not many people are honest enough to do that.’ It feels good to be noted for doing the right thing!” —Vivian.

b. In conclusion, honesty will not bring physical rewards, but it brings peace in your heart.

c. Now consider some of the good consequences you can have by being honest.

d. “A woman walking ahead of me drops some money. I call her and return her money. She is so thankful.
