INDIGENOUS LIFE IN COLOMBIA
In the past, three of the most famous indigenous groups in Colombia were the Muisca, the Wayuu, and the Embera. Each group had its own way of living, working, and interacting with others.
The Muisca people were living in the central highlands near Bogotá. They were farming maize, potatoes, and quinoa to survive. Men were fishing in rivers, while women were making clothes from cotton. The Muisca were also trading salt and gold with other communities.
In the north, the Wayuu people were living in the desert of La Guajira. They were taking care of goats and using them for food and trade. Women were weaving colorful bags called mochilas, and men were fishing in the Caribbean Sea. They were exchanging their products with people from Venezuela and other Colombian regions.
In the west, the Embera people were living along rivers in the rainforest. They were hunting animals and fishing to get food. Women were making baskets from palm leaves, while men were building wooden canoes. The Embera were also sharing stories and songs around the fire at night.
All these groups were keeping their traditions alive while they were working hard to survive and connect with other communities.
